John J. Miller
Professor John J. Miller received the A.B. degree in mathematics in 1968
from the University of Rochester. He received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees,
in statistics, from Stanford in 1969 and 1974. Dr. Miller's research
areas are in the theory and applications of linear models and in the
practical implementation of advanced techniques of statistics.
Dr. Miller taught at Rutgers University for seven years before coming
to GMU in 1979, and has been instrumental in developing the statistics
curriculum offered at GMU. Dr. Miller actively engages in the application
of statistical techniques to the solution of practical problems. He
has experience in such application fields as medical laboratory
evaluation and quality control standards, litigation support in
discrimination cases, evaluation of military intelligence automated
procedures, and design and analysis of experiments in psychology.
His current research interests are transient signal detection and
estimation of correlations when all variables are subject to limits
of detection. He is co-investigator on a grant from National Marine
Fisheries Service and has been co-investigator on a grant from the
National Science Foundation. Dr. Miller is Associate Professor of Applied
and Engineering Statistics.
