
Wadie N. Sirgany
Dr. Wadie N. Sirgany earned the B.S.E.E. with high distinction from the
University of Rochester in 1968 and the M.S.E.E. and the Ph.D. from
Syracuse University in 1973. He is currently employed as an Advisory
Engineer/Scientist at Loral Federal Systems and holds an appointment
as Adjunct Associate Professor of Applied and Engineering Statistics
at George Mason University. Dr. Sirgany has many years of experience
with advanced signal processing, computer systems, and simulation at
IBM/Loral, GE, and Singer-Link. He has been a principal investigator
for independent research and development for over 10 years, including
projects to develop advanced applications of machine intelligence,
compression, clustering, and fractal techniques for underwater, space
and other applications. Currently, he is the Chief Engineer for a dual
use contract with ARPA, CEROS, and the University of Hawaii Marine
Mammal Laboratory to apply his previous research and development tools
to the monitoring of whales in the Pacific Ocean and to develop models
for whale and dolphin vocalizations. Dr. Sirgany has been an adjunct
professor for George Mason University since January, 1993 and has taught
STAT 344, 350, and 354. He has also taught Probability, Analysis of
Random Signals, Space-Time Processing and other signal processing courses
for the IBM Professional Education Program. He has been a technical
reviewer for IBM patents, IBM and IEEE technical papers, and a book
reviewer for Wiley and Sons.
